Welcome! My name is Chelsea Martinez, trained doula and owner of Bluebonnet Birth Care. I support women in labor, birth, and postpartum through doula services and childbirth education in the Houston Bay Area. I can't wait to begin the conversation about your desires in birth, and come alongside you to ensure you feel
Respected. Supported. Empowered.
What is a doula?
A doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during, and after birth. The doula understands the true impact of childbirth on the mother and is a protector of the sacred experience of her birth.
The doula does not provide medical care, clinical tasks such a cervical checks or fetal heart tones and does not speak on behalf of the client. Schedule a complimentary consultation to get to know Chelsea and find out how having a doula will help inform and empower you to have the best birth experience possible. |
when doulas attend birth, ON AVERAGE labor is shorter with fewer complications, THERE IS LESS NEED FOR INTERVENTION, AND THE MOTHER HAS A MORE EMPOWERED EXPERIENCE.
Labor and Birth Doula
Doula services for labor and birth begin during pregnancy to ensure you have the information needed to make informed choices regarding your birth. After thoroughly getting to know you and your desires for your birth, I am on call for the birth and will provide continuous physical and emotional support during and after, up until breastfeeding has been established. It ends with a postpartum visit (typically within the first two weeks) to make sure you are doing well, answer any questions, process your birth story, and help with any breastfeeding needs.

Postpartum
Doula In addition to labor and birth doula services, you can add a postpartum package or request support once baby is born, at a per hour rate. Postpartum support includes continued help with breastfeeding or resources to help if outside my scope, emotional support and encouragement, or light cleaning or other help around the house. This is a good option for moms whose spouse goes back to work quickly, don't have other family in town, have multiple children, or are experiencing motherhood for the first time.

Childbirth Education
Coming soon! For the birth of our son, my husband and I believe our childbirth education made the difference in our preparedness for birth! While I am finishing certification to become an instructor, I offer a discount for mothers who choose to go through natural-childbirth focused courses. Hospital childbirth classes are not eligible. You need to learn how your body is designed for birth, pain coping techniques, and the partner's role in a successful birth. I provide a lot of this information during prenatal appointments, however a more extensive course is encouraged!
